Our Story

A great value family cafe with a commitment to a sustainable future

How we started and where we’re going

The cafe was established in 2001 with a vision of providing a better breakfast or lunch stop for the travelling public than could normally be found. The idea was to get good wholesome locally sourced ingredients from the farm to the table by the shortest possible route. The reputation of the cafe for transforming the abundant local produce into mouthwatering freshly cooked breakfasts and delicious lunches, not to mention our enormous scones and freshly baked cakes, spread by word of mouth and the cafe became a destination for customers from near and far.

As much local produce as we can source

Today, we are privileged to maintain good relationships with many small local micro producers who bring to the cafe and shop sometimes just one or two special things for which they have a passion; maybe asparagus in the mid-spring, strawberries and raspberries in the summer, or apples in the early autumn. We believe this good, local, tasty, fresh and seasonal produce to be the basic building blocks on which our menus are created.

Everybody is welcome

We hope to cater for all members of the family so if you have an elderly relative with little appetite or small children we offer smaller portions of most of our menu dishes. We are also happy to wrap anything you couldn't manage to take away with you for later. The cafe is on one level and is disabled/wheelchair friendly. Well behaved dogs on leads are very welcome in both the cafe and shop.
